Jason Smith of VT, then NYC, then Staten Island, married first Katharine Ann Hunt and second Mary Denny of Manhattan.
From the second marriage he provided three sons who fought in the Civil War. They were George H. Smith, Charles Edward Smith, and Oscar F. Smith. All survived.
George, Charles, and Oscar had the following siblings: Jason A, Mary Catherine, Alice Matilda and Lewis N.
They also had half-siblings, William Mulford, Deborah A., and Adelia, from their father's first marriage.

George Henry Smith, born in Manhattan Oct 1843, served in the 66th NY Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
George H. enlisted in New York City in 1861 as an eighteen year old Private, and mustered out in New York City in 1865.
George married Isabella WILSON and had Louis, Ferry, Sarah, Louis, Mary, Isabella, Milton, and Philred. George moved to Elizabeth NJ and died there 17 Apr 1915.
Charles Edward SMITH was born July 12, 1845, in Manhattan. He was a painter by trade, as was his father.
Charles E. Smith enlisted in Company K of the 132nd NY Volunteer Infantry on August 13, 1862, but deserted by Nov 1863. Reason not preserved for posterity.
He made good his time, and was transferred to Company A of the 99th NY Volunteer Infantry. With the 99th, he saw considerable warfare.
He mustered out with his company on July 15, 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina.
Charles joined GAR Post 524 in 1886. He applied for a disability pension "on account of the following disabilities: Ulcer on Left Leg Single Rupture, Defective Eye Sight - Hearing Very Bad."
After the war, on August 30, 1868, Charles married Elizabeth "Libbie" Burton, daughter of John and Catherine, of Factoryville.
They had nine children, six of whom survived: Ernest M., Charles E. F., Mary D., Henrietta May "Nettie", Emma Foster, Oscar F, Percival H., Florence E., and Lillian E. Smith.
The family resided in Castleton and Stapleton.
Charles died on Oct 27 1922 and is buried in Fountain Cemetery.
He got but one line in the newspaper at his death.
Oscar F. Smith, born in Staten Island around 1845-46, served in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War.
Oscar was a painter, as was his father. He enlisted in 1864 in Brooklyn, when he was 18. Oscar served on the USS Potomac and was transferred to the USS Stockdale.
The Stockdale, a wooden, side-wheel steamer, was commissioned 26 Dec 1863. Stockdale served in the West Gulf Blockading Squadron for the most part, and supported mop-up operations in and around Mobile Bay.
Oscar was "sent North September 4, 1865."
Oscar married Mary E. Barcalow, daughter of Daniel Jones Barcalow and Ann La Tourette, and they had three children: Oscar, Jason Mulford, and Sarah Ann.
Oscar died about April 02, 1874 and was buried in Jason's plot at Fountain Cemetery on April 4, 1874.
